David Thanh
Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Canada and now living in Vancouver, David spent 10 years working as a Paramedic and an additional 3 years as a workflow and information technology consultant for Emergency Departments in the Lower Mainland before making the move to documentary filmmaking. While some may have seen his move as bold, David doesn’t see it as a big change. “Documentary is all about getting your story out in a clear, concise and understandable manner. That’s much the same principle that is applied in health care in handing over patient care on arrival to a hospital. A large part of health care is the patient’s story. Not only is their story relevant to what they are experiencing but it is our duty as health care professionals to share the patient’s story in a way that both helps them and honours their reality.”
In addition to his career in health care, David has experienced other jobs including bus driver, construction labourer, soccer goal post assembler, emergency dispatcher and adventure tour guide. A broad range of careers has given David the ability to relate to a broad range of people.
David is currently building his filmmaking portfolio. Mentoring under award winning filmmaker Michael Brown at the 2008 Serac Adventure FIlm School Peru expedition, David completed his first documentary short THE CaN’Tswer and is currently working on several other projects.
David is a member of the Documentary Organization of Canada
